Sitting above the city of Trail, Rossland is a small mountain town with the charm and heritage appeal typical of the West Kootenays. Many of the homes here are restored or updated mining era houses, with large windows and steep roofs to accommodate the high annual snowfall. Many skiers and health professionals call Rossland home. Steep roads characterize the town, as well as the runs on the word class ski resort, which continually produces accomplished ski racers and freestylers. The local economy includes Teck Resources - a zinc and lead smelter, forestry and tourism.
